This paper provides an overview of the PODS Association and a detailed look at the transformed PODS Pipeline Data Model resulting from the PODS Next Generation initiative — a complete re-design and modernization driven by the Association’s 2016–2019 Strategic Plan and nearly 20 years of implementation experience. The Next Gen Data Model is designed as the system of record for pipeline centerlines and pressurized containment assets, giving operators greater agility to build and extend the model, interoperate through standard data models and a consistent application interface, and share data using well-defined data exchange specifications. It also covers the model’s alignment with Esri’s ArcGIS for Pipeline Referencing (APR).
